Adventures on Udo Island

September 30, 2015

I have been enjoying staycation bliss on Jeju Island for over a year. I was super excited to be on an island and even more happy I got to hop over to Udo Island! Udo Island is just off the coast of Jeju Island and it is apparently shaped like a cow lying down. I didn't arrive via space ship, nor did I arrive via helicopter, so I can neither confirm or deny this :)  Udo is the biggest of all the little islands surrounding Jeju. About 2000 peeps reside there, basalt houses, white sand beaches, no traffic lights very narrow roads are all part of Udo's charm. Udo has it all. Lots of coral! White sand beaches! Cool, geological formations and even a shell beach! It also has a super neat lighthouse. You can get to by hiking a short trial.

When my friend and I saw the lighthouse at the top of one the cool geological formations, we kept saying how it reminded us of Scotland or Ireland. Maybe not, but just certain parts of it, like the lighthouse and basalt fences and small winding roads. Renting a scooter was perfect for us because of the narrow winding roads. Udo is simply a magical piece of nature.

I am super grateful to my friend, Jackie for getting me there finally. I had been putting off visiting for the perfect time. I think this was perfect timing.  We had a long weekend here in South Korea, so that made the timing perfect. Udo is only a 15 minutes ferry ride from Seongsan harbor. The journey was seamless.

After running a bit late, we arrived on Udo Island at about 3:30 pm. It was perfect because it only takes an hour and a half of less to go around the island. We stopped for ice cream and took tons of pictures along the way, so I am certain we could have gone around the island faster. We had a blast driving our electric scooter though I was a tad scared of it at first. Udo is overall a must see if you ever visit Jeju Island. I had a blast and I am already plotting my next visit.

Let's talk a bit about the ice cream the yummiest tangerine ice cream I had called Hallabong
Ice cream. That was wickedly yummy! The guy at the shop also gave us a sample of the peanut ice cream which is a specialty on the island, and it was just as yummy. I was very impressed with the quality of the ice cream. My friend and I got our ice cream from a place called Udo Prince There are several locations around the island you can purchase this delightful treat.

We were only on the island for about two and a half hours, so another trip to Udo is a must. One of the best things about going later in the evening was the sunset. It was amazeballs! I was like a kid in a candy store because watching the sunset is by far, my favorite thing to do. The pictures really do not do it justice. I will either add more pictures to this post or have a post dedicated to photos. Too many awesome photos to keep to myself :)))
