Exploring Smaller Italian Towns

April 10, 2017

Hello, Spring! I think that statement may be premature, but a girl can dream, right?  Think I have been waiting for spring since November and finally I can see the light. Instead of wearing four layers, I wore two. Instead of boots, I wore sneakers. Instead of sleeping until 7 am, I woke up at 5:30 am. NOTE: This post was written over a month ago and spring has since arrived, though the nights are very cold still.

The weather is very unpredictable, so when it is sunny it is only right to grab my camera and get lost around town. Clear blue skies, spring-like temperatures, and I even gave my ankles some fresh air. I took complete advantage of the day. I was up by 5:30 am and ready for the day like the champ I am not. Finished all the things I needed to get done by noon. Thankfully the weather held up until late into the evening and I was able to get some great shots. Though I live in a small town, there aren't any shortages of beauty to discover each day.

I find that Italy is great for all the touristy places, but the smaller cities are authentic and what you see is what you get. Sure, Rome is beautiful. Yes, Milan is fashionable. Certainly, Venice is romantic. Then after I've been to all those places, I cannot wait to get to our little village and our little house filled with love, wine, and cheese :)

The pictures above were taken in the towns below. All towns are located in Bergamo province in Northern Italy along Lago d'Iseo or Lake Iseo.

Sarnico is a town at the southern end of Lago d'Iseo. The town is small and beautiful, thanks to the lake and surrounding mountains. It is great for an evening stroll or and early Thursday morning market day. Throughout the year many people go fishing on the lake. There are several terrific restaurants as well, but be prepared to pay a little more than places further away from the lake.

Predore is village is located on the southwestern portion of the lake and it is one the best spots to see the sunset in my opinion because other areas are mountainous and the sun tends to disappear very fast. This area is perfect for aperitivo (drink and snack before dinner), but then again anywhere close to the lake is amazing, but I usually arrive an hour before sunset. See the timelapse I made in Predore HERE.

Tavenrnola is one of my favorite towns. It has such an untamed beauty. Located next to Predore beautiful and mysterious because once you leave Predore the sun disappears. The weather is very strange in this area because it is perched on the side of the rocky mountain and the only way to get there is through a tunnel which runs through the mountain. The colors there are unreal and is a photographer's dream. My camera could never do this town justice.

Don't forget to explore your own neighborhood because chances are there is something beautiful and inspiring around each corner. Thanks for reading this post, please leave your thoughts/comments below. Till next time, Lxxx
